The Best Games of 2017 for PC and Consoles
With 2017 being a thing of the past and the new year already here, we decided to create a list with the games (most of them available on both PC and consoles) that impressed us in 2017. Let’s hope that 2018 will bring even more masterpieces for us to play and talk about.
Although it is not a "new" title and it is exclusive on PS4, I couldn't leave it out of the list because of how important to me this game is since childhood. This remastered version has great graphics and its gameplay remains incredibly addictive and difficult. Naughty Dog really gave fans of Crash the best gift. The feelings I had during gameplay ranged between nostalgia and frustration as I tried to clear every level and world. Whatever the case, Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy is a pure platformer that will always hold a special place in my heart.
Last Day of June is one of those games that will make you cry, and then it will make you wonder how far you would go for those important to you, the people you love and you want to have by your side. Without realizing it you will begun questioning all you took for granted and think about all the choices you made in your life. The storytelling shines through the characters and you will understand that you don't need impressive graphics nor impressive explosions to enjoy a game to the maximum. Cuphead is a game you will love and hate at the same time and a masterpiece nonetheless. The cartoon designs that create a nostalgic feeling to all of us and attract younger players as well, is probably the first reason of its success. Its straightforward gameplay is easy to learn but is difficult to control before you get enough experience. Certainly worth a spot on the list. Read our full review of Cuphead.
The new Assassin's Creed manages to redeem the few previous titles of the series. So after a series of not so successful games, Origins brought back the quality of game we missed from AC. The new elements of the game, such as the introduction of RPG elements and impressive graphics, give this game more than one reasons to be included in the top titles of the year.
It was the surprise game of the past year. It went against bigger titles and managed to capture the hearts of everyone who played it.. With a very interesting plot that featured several exciting moments, enjoyable gameplay, a lot of mini games and of course the beautiful 2B whose appearance and character monopolized the internet for a long time since its release, NieR Automata is here to stay and we can't wait for the sequel to be just as good if not better. Read our full review of NieR: Automata.
Bethesda made a fairly improved sequel with a very interesting outlook and gameplay that has the challenge and all the game mechanics of a worthy survival-horror. It offers a great survival experience for about 20 hours (if you want to complete the side-quests as well). Despite the weaknesses in the stealth mechanisms, it is a complete survival horror that's worth playing if you're a fan of the genre. Read our full review of The Evil Within 2.
Red Barrels created a sequel that managed to be scarier, more enjoyable as a whole and with any improvements compared to the first game. It takes the terror and gore to a whole new level and welcomes you with open arms in a universe that can only be compared to a nightmare. If you enjoyed the first Outlast, you will love this one as well. Definitely worth a spot in this list. Read our full review of Outlast II.
Detention is one of the surprises of the year as it managed to capture our interest and hearts with its atmospheric horror elements and the sad plot that accompanied it. It is a 2D atmospheric horror side-scroller that was released in January and was developed by Taiwanese studio Red Candle Games. It excels in terms of gameplay, storytelling and graphics. The Sexy Brutale is another game that stood out in 2017 because of its uniqueness. Developed by Tequila Works and Cavalier Game Studios, The Sexy Brutale is a creation with unique visual, gameplay and plot that will impress you and deserves the attention of those of you looking for an adventure puzzle that is nothing like the rest. Read our full review of The Sexy Brutale.
Even though the gameplay is limited in this walking simulator and although it won't take more than a couple of hours to finish it, it draws you in with its narration and the tragic stories of the Flinch family. It is a sad, and bittersweet journey will stay with you for a long time after you finish it. Read our full review of What Remains of Edith Finch.
And this concludes our list of what we consider to be the best games of 2017, even though the choices were many and the decision difficult. Nevertheless, we are looking forward to next year's list. What could be in it, I wonder... Only one way to find out, right? Happy New Year guys!
