Developers now have the option to access the Unreal Engine 4 on their Mac, PC, iOS or Android devices for $19 per month and 5% of gross revenue earned from apps and games built on the engine.

The engine will be available to developers across multiple platforms, from smartphones and tablets to high-end consoles and PCs.

Tim Sweeney, the founder of Epic Games says in a statement, “This is the complete technology we at Epic use when building our own games, forged by years of experience shipping games like Gears of War for Xbox and Infinity Blade for iOS, and now reinvented for new generation.”

The developers will be able to work in the Unreal Editor also offering a Marketplace with free and paid content, game templates and samples. The editor is focused on community, with the Q&A hub, a wiki page and forums to allow developers collaborate and resolve issues within the community.

It is well worth mentioning that previous versions of Unreal Engine powered several stellar video games, including Borderlands and Bioshack. The launch of the Unreal Engine 4 may signal the launch of an “exciting” future, according to Sweeney, where everyone can develop a fantastic videogame on the cutting-edge technology.

“It’s no longer dominated by giant publishers and marketing campaigns, but by a simple and honest proposition: gamers pay for great games and anybody who can valuably contribute to building those games can succeed, from indie developers, to large triple-A teams, and to individual programmers and content creators, too.”
