LG continued to grow in 2014 with both the number of devices shipped out and the money falling to the bottom line as profits rising markedly over the previous year despite global competition being fierce in the smart phone and tablet market, and things not being any easier with other markets like LCD LED flat panels where the company also competes.

Growth and Success

1 large LG grew by leaps and bounds in 2014

The units sold hit 60 million for phones which is a 25 percent jump over the year prior despite a fall in market share in the North American region. The growth areas with Europe, Eastern Europe and the Emerging Markets like South-east Asia. The profits were $474 million in 2014.

Competition Stiff

The result is impressive because companies like Samsung face increasing competition within Asia and in India MicroMax just overtook Samsung for the number one position. Competition is extremely strong with many contenders making it different to offer products that diffentiate from what is already on the market.

TVs Also Grew Fast

The LG TV division also grew by 31 percent making significant gains about other competitors too. Clearly LG was firing on all cylinders in 2014.

LG Flex and LG Flex 2 Leading Phones in the Market

The LG Flex was a popular new model which sported a curved design using the latest curved glass technology from Corning for its protective Gorilla Glass product. The newer LG Flex 2 is being promoted at tech shows presently for a launch shortly so it'll be interesting to see how this fares against the robust competition later in 2015.

Innovative Gold-colored Transparent LG Phone with Firefox OS

2 full LG grew by leaps and bounds in 2014

The company also debuted a transparent LG phone in China with the Firefox OS installed which was distinctive yet pricey. The Fx0 from trendy designer Tokujin Yoshioka featured mid-level specifications with a gold colored casing and a gold home button featuring the Firefox OS logo.

Looking Ahead

During 2015 LG is expected to continue with an aggressive second push into emerging markets with a specific focus on certain countries within the emerging region overall. The American market is seen as less of a good prospect at the present time so the company is looking elsewhere to other countries and regions where they are finding more success.
