Game Review: Face players around the globe in Cube Critters

It certainly has been long since we reviewed a mobile game and we are glad to be back with a game that is a lot of fun and challenging. If you have been following our game reviews for a long time, you will know that many of the reviews regarded cubic games, such as the highly famous Crossy Road. There’s just something unique about these games that attract our interest and Cube Critters that we’ll be reviewing today, is definitely a title that will please lovers of cubic games. Let us take a closer look to it.

Gameplay

In Cube Critters you control a cute cuboid character of your choice and play against opponents around the world, or even friends of yours if they are using the app, in various worlds each with its own theme e.g. the Sky forest, the desert or the Frozen world. There are also 3 more worlds that you can unlock if you collect enough coins. At first the worlds appear easy to clear but after a few repetitions you will come to realize that more traps have been added to spice things up for you and your opponent. These traps include spikes, arrows that are fired at you, burning grounds and more. There are also cubes that if you walk on you will lose speed and others that do the opposite and give you great speed.

Of course there are also collectibles that work in your favor or to be more precise, against your opponent, such as the snail that causes the other player to move slowly, or the bomb that causes damage to them and more. A collectible that will help you is the rocket that allows you to move fast for a short amount of time and the occasional coins that appear here and there. The checkpoints are also very useful and I was very relieved when I realized that you don’t have to step on a check point to activate it, but instead it is activated automatically when you are near it. This saved me a lot of time.

There are various modes to play on. There is the Training mode where you play by yourself and you have to escape the traps that appear on your way (it consists of 50 levels in total), and then there is the multiplayer mode that you can enjoy either with your friends from Facebook or you can go on a 1v1 game against random players around the world. Needless to say, I got addicted to the 1v1 mode as it is very exciting and forces you to give it your best to reach the finishing line first.

A funny feature is the emojis that you can use while playing to express your feelings of happiness or anger in case you are too far off behind and others. The game also rewards you with gifts here and there that can be either new characters or coins.

In-app Purchases

While you can get characters and unlock worlds with coins, you can also purchase them with cash. Other than that, there are no IAPs to hinder with the game and you can also get coins by watching ads.

Graphics & Sounds

The 3D graphics are beautiful to look and the color palette very diverse as every world is different. The cuboid characters are adorable and there is a large variety to choose from. Humans, animals and other creatures will make each game a great adventure for you. The music is uplifting and funny and fits the game perfectly.

Conclusion
