Sony has been working for a while now on a more powerful version of the PlayStation 4, which has been codenamed PS4 Neo. The information that surface from time to time come from a memo that has reached the hands of the developers, and which was leaked on the internet on Thursday night.

In 42 pages, Sony explains almost everything in the early stages of development, including the development tricks to increase the games’ resolution to 4K or close to 4K, as well as the dates that the prototypes are expected to be released.

The authenticity of the documents has not been confirmed, however many sources seem to highlight their certainty that the info is correct, although perhaps not updated based on current data.

The conclusions that can emerge is that Sony aims to offer both the PS4 and the PS4 Neo, without them covering one another, while all the games that will be released in October onwards will have to support both versions console.

According to the leaks, PS4 Neo's CPU will have the same "Jaguar" core as the original PS4, but at a higher frequency. It will have eight cores clocked at 2.1 GHZ, which makes it 1.3x faster. The GPU uses an improved version of AMD GCN CUs (Compute units), featuring 36 CUs at 911 MHz (2.3X FLOPs).

The new console will have 8GB GDDR5 RAM, which is same as the original console's, but the new one will have higher bandwidth - 218 GB per second (1.24x faster). The HDD will be same as the original PS4.

Something else worth mentioning is that although the PS4 Neo will be mostly aimed at the owners of 4K TVs, HD TV owners should be able to notice quality improvements as well, e.g. a higher level of detail or a higher frame rate. The PS4 Neo will be able to recognize the screen resolution it will be connected to, and operate at the appropriate mode.

Sony allows developers to decide whether to release patches for older games (if they want them to run with improvements in Neo), but the goal for existing games is not to have tremendous differences.

The document was available here, but it seems it has been taken down quickly. We'll update it when a new one comes around, but you can check a few samples of its contents below:
