Telnet is a popular protocol used to exchange data between two computers over internet or LAN, using a virtual terminal. The Telnet client and server are both included in Windows Vista, 7, 8, but they are not enabled by default.

Here's how to enable the Telnet client on Windows

  1. Open Control Panel > Programs
  2. Click Turn Windows features on or off
  3. Scroll to Telnet Client and check the box next to it. Click Ok.

That's it. You can now open the command Prompt in Windows and use the Telnet command. Or use PuTTY instead on Windows' CMD.
