1 medium Facebook is Shutting Down Messenger for Windows and Firefox Killing EmailFacebook Messenger users have experienced a rude shock as Facebook has pulled the plug on the service last Thursday.

“We are sorry, but we can no longer support Facebook Messenger for Windows, and it stops working on March 3, 2014. We really appreciate you using Messenger to reach your friends, and we want to make sure you know that you can keep chatting and find all your messages on Facebook.com.”

The same fate struck Facebook Messenger for Firefox, which was also shut down on March 3. While Facebook also terminated another less used Facebook Email platform, the news about it shutting down Facebook Messenger for both Firefox and Windows came as a huge surprise.

A few days ago, the installer for Facebook Messenger for Windows vanished while the official Facebook Messenger webpage no longer has the Windows Messenger icon and offers only apps for Android and iPhone.

This clearly demonstrates how Facebook is moving its base to mobile platforms altogether, given that Facebook apps are most used a mobile devices. It is worth mentioning that at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Microsoft announced Facebook Messenger was coming to Windows Phone.

Back in March 2012, when Facebook Messenger for Windows was launched, numerous users requested Facebook Messenger should come to the Mac OSX as well, but in the light of recent events, it is highly unlikely to happen.
