Use Twitter to vote for the man of the match in the World Cup's matches

The biggest sports event in the world has already started and every football fan is anxiously and proudly waiting to see his national team (and not only) playing in the World Cup. This year, for the first time, the decision for the Most Valuable Player in the game will not be made by officials but by you.

How Will This Work?

Budweiser, the World Cup’s official sponsor, has a new strategy to promote the event and satisfy the fans all over the world. The plan is to use Tweets to measure the people’s favorite player in each match. More specifically, twitter users will be able to cast their vote by using the #ManOfTheMatch hashtag and sending it to @BudweiserFC. The voting will be taking place strictly after the first half of each match ends, so that biased and unreasonable votes will be discouraged.

But Isn't This Process Flawed?

Twitter is well-known for its bot accounts that can easily promote other accounts for various reasons. This important fact is something that shouldn't be ignored by those in charge, since it’s quite easy for someone to unleash his bots and screw up the voting process for everyone.

But even if measures are taken against fake votes, there is nothing that can be done about the lack of knowledge from real voters. I mean, it’s ok to vote for your favorite player who scored a golden hat-trick (and it’s probably a must), but it’s not ok to vote for your crush because he has rock-hard abs and looks cool in the shirt of his national team. Unfortunately however, that vote cannot be invalidated - so if you see anyone trying to vote for a player because of ridiculous reasons, do the right thing and stop him.

An Alternative Way To Vote

If you don’t have a Twitter account you can still vote by using the official Budweiser app (iOS, Android) or by visiting fifa.com. There is no word on how the final result will be determined (if for example it will be the sum of all votes or if it will be a weighted average), but let’s hope that it will be a fair and satisfactory one.
