"Control the sound volume with a wheel mouse."
Volumouse is a system tool to control the sound volume by using the mouse. The wheel mouse function is used essentially as a volume rocker in much the same way that many cell phones do so today.
A set of rules can be custom-defined in order to change how the mouse wheel can be used to affect the volume control feature inside of Windows. It is possible to configure in a variety of ways like setting the software so that when the left ALT button is held down and the mouse wheel is rolled forwards, the volume goes up, and similarly when the left ALT button is held down and the mouse wheel rolls backwards, the volume drops. Various conditions can be set to suit the user.
When the mouse wheel is used normally without activating a pre-definited key sequence from Volumouse, then the mouse wheel reacts the way it normally would, i.e. will move pages up and down, etc.
There is both a 32-bit and a 64-bit version of Volumouse. The 64-bit version should be installed when using a 64-bit version of Windows. The two different versions can be accessed from the developer's product page. If you need the 32-bit version, we've got it mirrored here.
The package is a portable app and as such does not need to be installed.
There was no adware, toolbars, spyware or malware included with the file archive.
Volumouse requires Windows 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP, Windows Server 2003, 7, Vista, Windows Server 2008 or 8.
The interface is a bit busy with Volumouse as it has many different drop-down boxes and selections that can be made.
There is no menu system or toolbars here. The interface goes straight into letting the user pick the sound mixer device to link to the hot key and mouse wheel actions. Many choices for key combinations can be set. Also the left or right mouse button can be used to indicate a change of sound volume too.
There is also some general option check boxes in the bottom-left corner to determine things like whether the app will run at Windows startup.
- Change the sound volume level up or down using a mouse wheel and key combination
- Set whatever hot keys that the user prefers, including left/right mouse buttons
- Mouse wheel works normally when no hot key is used
- Interface allows the selection of different mixer devices
- Busy interface which could be confusing the first time it is used
Sound Volume Hotkeys can provide access to sound level adjustments using keyboard hot keys.
Volumouse is a useful sound tool that can use the mouse wheel in combination with a key combination to initiate volume changes.
