"Check for dead/paralysed/stuck pixels on LCD"
IsMyLcdOK is a small Windows program that can be used on any PC without installing to check for dead, stuck or paralyzed pixels on a flat panel PCD monitor or flat screen display on a laptop. The software can be placed on a USB thumb drive and tested on a new monitor or laptop, before it is taken out of the store, to confirm whether the screen has any display issues so that the seller cannot claim that it was damaged after leaving the store.
When loading the application, it immediately runs in full screen mode without any warning! There are instructions that are converted into the local language on the computer which is a nice touch. The instructions layout out how to run different tests.
In the first test, the screen will display a blank page in one color and then with the press of any key on the keyboard the screen color will change to the next test in the sequence. In this way, the user has control of the testing process and how many seconds they need to scan the full screen for dead, stuck or paralyzed pixels before moving on to a different color. Depending on the size of the display being viewed, this can be an important feature.
Testing can be controlled via hot keys using keys 1 through 8 which displays a different color throughout the whole of the screen. Gradual color gradients can be used horizontally or vertically. It is also possible to draw horizontal or vertical lines across the screen to test that they look level and straight without any noticeable gaps anywhere along the line.
The installation package is downloaded as a file archive but it only contains a single executable file with no instructions. As such, this is a portable file that can be loaded up on many different Windows-based computers easily.
There was no adware, toolbar, spyware or other malicious software included within the executable file.
IsMyLcdOK requires Windows 98, 2000, Vista, XP, 7 or 8 (32-bit or 64-bit).
The interface is full screen. Hot keys are displayed with local numbers to start a different test. Local language translation is used to clarify what each hot key will do.
The interface is basic, but instantaneous and quick to check any screen throughout in less than a minute.
