"IronPython was specially made as a codename."
Python developers can now rejoice. IronPython adds support for the very popular Python programming language for Mono and .NET framework. If you’re looking to create Windows applications using Python, you’ll now have access to all the .NET libraries to make your work a breeze.
Here are the key features:
- It is free to use and it’s open source (anyone is welcome to add code to make it better)
- The code for IronPython is written in C# and it was built using the DLR (Dynamic Language Runtime) which in its turn runs on top of CLI (Common Language Infrastructure); this is truly a dynamic duo: the DLR provides support for dynamic languages while CLR helps developer add new languages
- Using SilverLight, it can be used as a client-side script in browser, just like JavaScript (or VBScript)
- It requires .NET Framework 2.0 in order to run
Download IronPython and you’ll be able to develop Windows applications in Python with full .NET support, or the other way around, integrate powerful Python modules in your already developed .NET programs.
