Overview

Over time, Kaspersky software utilities have become distinguished as one of the best protection programs available on the market, and the Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 is no exception. As you have probably already guessed, this software is an antivirus program that can protect the data on your computer from the common internet viruses, trojans, worms, and so on. In addition, the software includes additional security features that keep the critical data you have stored on your computer safe from hackers and third parties, as it includes a spam filter and enhanced protection against identity theft.

The Kaspersky Internet Security comes with a two-way firewall that monitors all suspicious activities without interfering with the tasks or programs you are currently running. In addition, it stops malicious background activities before they get to the computer, thanks to the cloud base monitoring feature. Furthermore, it includes a parental control option that enables any concerned parent to limit the access to certain websites and keeps a log of the activities performed on the computer.

Installation

In the event that you have purchased the Kaspersky software from a local store, then all you need to do is insert the DVD into your CD-ROM and the installation will start automatically, as the wizard setup will guide you through the entire process. On the other hand, if you purchase it from an online store then you will need to install it manually in most cases. The installation will take a few minutes, depending on your hardware and you will be asked to activate the product immediately after the installation.

In order for the software to work optimally and not slow down your computer, your machine should have a processor of at least 800 MHz and a minimum of 512MB RAM, considering that your installed operating system is Windows XP 32-Bit or older. If you have Vista or Windows 7, then the processor should have at least 1GHz. In addition, you need at least 1GB RAM for Vista and a minimum of 2GB RAM for Windows 7.

Interface

The interface of the Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 is quite stylish and user-friendly. Whilst the background is the usual shade of green Kaspersky fans are used to, the interface is enhanced by a big button on the top of the screen that turns red whenever the database is obsolete and the software needs an update. All six major category menus are on the left and clicking on any of them will open a submenu with a lot of features and options to customize the antivirus software.

At the same time, the menu gives easy access to your personal Kaspersky account, support center and the help menu. Moreover, on the right downside of the interface you will have a notification that presents you with the total number of days your Kaspersky will be active and working optimally, so you will easily remember when it is time to renew the license.

Pros

One of the best features of the Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 is the virtual keyboard feature. This innovative attribute enables the user to check the computer for key-loggers, which is a type of malicious software designed to steal passwords. In addition, this software includes a safe run option that allows you to navigate on websites that are not normally considered safe, or that require you to provide critical data, such as your credit card details or Social Security number, for instance. Lastly, it includes a two-way firewall that prevents third parties from breaking into your system and stealing important data.

Cons

Even though it is quite powerful, the Kaspersky Internet Security users claim it is not the best thing out there for removing email spam. In addition, some professional tests showed that it did not get maximum efficiency in the anti-phishing tests.

Alternatives

Since the Kaspersky 2011 software price range is around $70, here are some free antivirus alternatives: the AVG, Microsoft Security Essentials and Avira AntiVir Personal. It is important to note that since these are free versions, you will need to purchase the products in order to get the full array of options and maximum protection.

Conclusion

Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 is a powerful antivirus with innovative technology meant to block even the trickiest trojans, key-loggers, worms or the smartest hackers on the internet. All in all, it is worth investing in this product!
