ClamAV was originally developed as an open source toolkit to help with anti-virus scanning across email gateways in the server environment. It was command line only, used in Linux environments. It has since been released as a Windows package too. ClavAV is able to detect over 750,000 viruses, worms, trojans and malware code inside files that are scanned. The virus definitions files can be updated to keep current with the latest digital threats. Scan inside archives like ZIP, TAR, ARJ, RAR, 7-ZIP and more to check all files on a collection of connected hard drives. The package can also be run via scripts for automated updating and scanning. Digital signatures can be utilized to ensure updates are clean.
