Narrative’s Clip 2 is a wearable camera with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi sync, and an 8-megapixel sensor

Following the successful Kickstarter campaign to develop the original Narrative Clip, the new and improved Clip 2 wearable camera from Sweden's Narrative is bound to create a stir at CES 2015.

The idea behind the camera is that the user can wear it easily on a shirt, jacket, even attached to a bag they carry around with them, and the camera takes a convenient snap about every 30 seconds.

The camera itself is pretty small, light and clips on easily to a variety of fabrics and surfaces. The latest model comes in a choice of three colors to suit your dress style: Arctic white, Narrative red or Piano black.

The second iteration of this interesting wearable digital device has an improved camera, better mounting options, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth communication, a battery that has more than 250 percent greater capacity, and an extra sensor.

Uploading Images Made Easy

Uploading is easy with the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity options to link directly to a smart phone, tablet or laptop computer or via USB cable on the desktop. When connecting the wearable device to a power outlet it will be able to use either Wi-Fi or Bluetooth to connect to the Narrative online storage to upload and store the captured images safely.

Smart Algorithms Sort Images Into Categories For You

Smart algorithms are used by the Narrative service to sort through the captured photos and move them into natural collections based on people, location, and time of the day. The best shots are also highlighted so it is easy to see the most impressive images or pick your own favorites by marking them with a star. Share captured images with friends and family online on social sites like Facebook and Twitter when you want to as well.

Camera

The Clip 2 comes with GPS to correctly geo-tag the images as they are taken. There is an 8 megapixel camera with f/.2.2 aperture, a 86 degree viewing angle which is capable of taking still shots in JPEG image format with a 3,264 x 2,448 pixel resolution (4:3).

Memory and Battery

8 GB RAM memory is provided with a 315 mAh battery that can run for up to 30 hours on a single charge. There are some useful sensors like an Accelerometer, Magnetometer, and Gyroscope.

Communications

Communications is handled via a Wi-Fi radio with automatic sync option, Bluetooth feature, and a USB port which can be used for recharging and transferring images over cable.

The Bluetooth feature is also useful because it offers a remote control option using the Narrative Clip app which is available for the Windows desktop, Mac desktop, an iOS app or Android app in order to extend the usefulness of the device.

Mounting Choices

There are multiple mounting options with the latest Clip 2 product. The backside mount is flexible rather than fixed which provides more mounting options than were possible with the original Clip product. The mounting choices include clipping to a shirt, a jacket, attaching to a baseball cap, and a bag or satchel.

Desktop and Mobile Apps

There is a Windows app (requires Windows XP SP3 or later), a mobile app for iOS (version 7.0 or later) and one for Android too (version 4.0 or later).

The apps provide options to access the images taken, review them, discard the ones that are not wanted and transfer images across for more permanent storage leaving more space on the Clip 2 to take more photos throughout the week. The Clip 2 app can also be used as a remote for the Clip 2 camera when so desired.

Free or Subscription Based

It is presently a little unclear whether the Narrative service will have a free subscription or a paid one. With the purchase there is a three month subscription provided but after this period it looks undecided what will happen.

Once the Clip 2 has been release after being shown off at the CES 2015 trade show then details will no doubt be finalized.

Pricing

Pricing is suggested at $199, up from $149 for the original Narrative Clip. However, the long battery life, better communication and improved camera make this a significant improvement over the original Clip. Also, for people who supported the Kickstarter campaign for the original Clip the company is offering a secret extra thank you.
