"Blocks JavaScript and Flash scripts."

Winner Best software in 2014 - Ad Blockers/No Tracking.

Overview

NoScript is a great way to protect your browsing experience by only allowing JavaScript, Java, Flash, as well as other plugins to only be ran when visiting trusted websites. Whether you want to temporarily allow or disable scripts from running on a website or even block them for good. It makes for excellent use for websites that have an overabundance of advertising as well. NoScript has received praise from trusted magazines such as the New York Times, PC World, Cnet News, the Washington Post and several others.

You can enable and disable the plugins by a simple right click menu option or by using the NoScript status bar icon. There’s no doubt that browsing is much safer in Mozilla Firefox with the use of this addon and is practically labeled as a must have staple for anyone using the browser. It uses very little resources giving no loss of functionality in your browsing experience. NoScript provides unique pre-emptive script blocking that prevents security vulnerabilities known and even not yet known. It also currently provides the most powerful anti-XSS and anti-Clickjacking protection available in the Mozilla Firefox browser.

NoScript is loaded the tons of options if you’re looking to detail the extensions use. Giving you the ability to edit the appearance and options in the right-click menu, editing whitelists, notifications, and embeddings. There is also an advanced menu allowing you to modify behavior for HTTPS connections, detail how to address a “Trusted” and “Untrusted” site as well as more advanced features. If you’re not interested in digging deep to configure the extension there’s no need to worry. The extension works great as is and very easy to use right off installation.

Installation

NoScripts installation is about as easy as they come. As long as you’re downloading the addon while using Mozilla Firefox it will install directly into the browser. Otherwise you can manage addons within Firefox by going to the main menu and selecting “Addons”.

Interface

NoScript options are built into the right-click menu function as well as a small non-intrusive status icon in your browsers tool-bar. Each giving you options to allow or disable plugins on the current page for a one time visit or for good.

Pros

  • Requires little resources from the browser
  • Easy Functionality
  • Provides anti-XSS and anti-Clickjacking protection

Cons

  • Most would agree, there is no reason not to add this kind of security to your browser.

Alternatives

Google Chrome has its own version called NotScripts providing similar functionality for those who use the Google Chrome browser. JavaScript Blocker is also an option for Safari users providing many of the same features as NoScript. Whereas Internet Explorer relies on its Filter and Internet security options to protect from such intrusions.

Conclusion

In a day and age where more and more threats are created on the internet it’s important to protect your browsing. If you’re currently using Mozilla Firefox or considering using it, I would highly recommend installing the NoScript extension. It provides a safe browsing experience without causing any slowdowns.
