"TrayOS speeds up your Google applications."

Overview

TrayOS is an application to help reach a selection of Google online tools directly from a single interface. The Tray OS name is slightly misleading because the application is no operating system, however it does mimic some of the functions included with the Chrome OS from Google.

The trick for the success of TrayOS is that Google online apps can be loaded into memory used by the TrayOS application. When the app loads, settings can be configured to automatically start certain Google services, show them, and configure correct security procedures to ensure correct logins. Google services like Gmail, Contacts, Calendar and News can all be set according to the individual requirements of the user.

The system is also handy for web developers and web site owners because there are features to help make access to Google Analytics, Google Adsense, Goodl Adwords and Google Translator.

Support is included for multiple accounts so the user is able to access more than one Gmail account under different user details.

Access to Google services includes Gmail, Google+, Contacts, Calendar, Drive, Play, Maps, News, Groups, Translate and Account.

Installation

The installation completed quickly and without any issues.

There was no adware, toolbars, spyware or malware included with the setup program.

TrayOS requires Windows 2000, XP, Vista, 7 or Windows Server 2003.

Interface

The interface includes a simple program toolbar across the top with the supported Google services, a small icon to post to Google+ about the software and a settings option.

Below the main control area, whichever Google service is selected, a web page will load to that service. When first accessed, the Gmail page is opened for the user as this is the first application in the toolbar list.

Pros

  • Access many Google services within an application where the services can be loaded into memory
  • Access Gmail, Google+, Contacts, Calendar, Drive, Play, Maps, News, Groups, Translate and Account
  • Login into multiple Google accounts on services that support it like Gmail
  • Software updated to reflect newer services like Drive and remove older ones like Reader

Cons

  • Some users may prefer to keep things within their web browser
  • If not updated, the software may continue to link to discontinued services and fail to add new services launched by Google including those in beta stage of development.

Alternatives

Google Chrome offers quicker access to key Google services.

Conclusion

TrayOS is a useful application to group access to several Google services into a single application with them loaded into memory once accessed correctly.
