"Mikrotik, Cisco, ChilliSpot, DOCSIS billing"

Overview

Radius Manager is a professional administration system for various NAS devices like Mikrotik (both PPP and Hotspot), Cisco, StarOS and Chillispot, as well as DOCSIS CMTSs. It has features that allow keeping track of many details and gives you control over numerous functions. A self-registration system is implemented so that users can register themselves and purchase credits using one of the supported payment methods. In addition, the connection tracking system stores a great deal of data in a fully searchable database.

Installation

The installation process is quite unique, as the application needs to be installed in the host. It requires a Linux server, with the recommended distros being CentOS 5+, Fedora 5+, Ubuntu 7+ and Debian 4+. You also need to have PHP 5.1, MySQL 5 and Glibc 2.4 (or newer versions) installed in your server. If you are having difficulties installing it yourself or don’t want to risk making a faulty installation, you can have it setup by the company’s professionals free of charge.

Interface

This application has two interfaces, both of which you can only access using a java-script enabled web browser. Those interfaces are the Administration Control Panel (ACP) and the User Control Panel (UCP). Logging into the ACP means that you can control users, the billing information, services etc. while the UCP is used by the regular registered users to view information about their account like traffic data and payments.

Pros

The web interface, apart from being pretty easy to use is also multilingual so you or your users won’t have any language issue at all.

Regarding the accounts, there is support for RADIUS and DOCSIS accounts. Traffic accounting is available for RADIUS only, but for both types users have the ability to buy cards prepaid cards (which can be printed using the included professional looking card preset) and use them whenever they want.

The Connection Tracking System (CTS) is another useful feature of Radius manager. With it you can view details about all the connected clients. You can see their usernames, date and time logged in, source/destination IP and the corresponding ports and the protocol used.

There is an online demo version available so that you can check out the available features before you decide to buy a license. From within the demo you can login either as a regular user or as an admin, able to thoroughly test everything with only a few limitations for safety purposes.

Cons

In the latest version of Radius Manager, a vulnerability of high risk was discovered that could be exploited and potentially allow someone to have access to sensitive information. Fortunately, this exploit was quickly found and secured with a patch release.

Alternatives

This is no actual software that can have an alternative, as it is a completely unique administration system.

Conclusion

Radius Manager is a truly remarkable software with many features that no one will possibly complain and ask for more. Moreover, it’s been proven that the developers are working hard to make it invulnerable to hacking attempts, so why not think about it and start by giving the demo version a try?
