"Brings Gmail to your Mac desktop."

Mailplane is a software utility designed to bridge the gap between the Mac operating system and Gmail. Since the two were virtually incompatible so far, the need to create a software tool that would facilitate the access to Gmail for Mac users materialized in the form of Mailplane. But that is not all, as this tool provides a whole range of features that not even Windows users have access to without the proper software. Whilst Mailplane is a paid software program, the trial version lasts for 30 days, it’s sufficient time for users to get accustomed to all its advantages and make up their mind regarding whether they should purchase it or not.

The size of the Mailplane installation kit is 23MB. The trial version can be downloaded directly from download3k or the developer's website, which is also a great place to check out the improvements that have been made to the program in latest updates. Since it has been designed particularly for Macs, this utility is not compatible with other operating systems. After choosing the destination path and agreeing to the terms and conditions, users will be notified that the program is in trial mode and that they have the ability to purchase the registration for only $24.95. However, it is advisable to test the software a bit before making a decision regarding the purchase.

At first glance, the interface of Mailplane is not overly complex, but it does contain a lot of elements that enhance the email experience of the users. The uppermost part of the window provides access to the typical features you could expect from an email, such as view modes, downloaded files, window management and help features. Underneath the options bar, Mailplane has a list of quick links, in order to facilitate their access to the most important actions, such as new email, reply, forward, send and discard. In addition, on the same bar, there are also quick links that enable users to take screenshots, attach media files to the email, switch between Gmail accounts or check the most recently downloaded files.

One of the most appreciated features of Mailplane is the ability to drag and drop files and even entire folders to the email window in order to attach them to the current email. In case you want to attach pictures and you are worried that the size might be too large, the automatic resize feature can come in handy. This works equally well when you are trying to send a screenshot from a section of your screen or when you are trying to send pictures directly from iPhoto. In addition, all the conversations you have via Gmail can be recorded.

The security of your email is no longer an issue, thanks to the keychain feature. When you are accessing Gmail via traditional browsers you are required to enter your password every couple of weeks. However, the Mailplane keychain will handle that operation for you. In addition, the keychain enables you to switch between users without having to type in the password every time.

The multi-user feature is also great for keeping track of incoming emails on different accounts. Once you receive new mail on either one of your accounts, you will be notified via the sound and visual effects, which you can set according to your preferences. Setup flexibility is quite possibly the most appreciated feature of the Mailplane, as almost all parts of this email program are customizable.

So far, there have not been any negative comments on Mailplane. The obvious downside of the program is that it does not have a version for other operating systems as well. However, the truth is that at the moment there is an abundance of similar applications designed specifically for Windows and Linux platforms.

At the moment, no other email software utility that allows Mac users access to Gmail exists. However, as far as software designed to facilitate the access to several email accounts and notify the users regarding received emails Gmail Manager, Gmail Notifier, and Gmail Express are the ones worth mentioning.

Mailplane can be considered an innovative and proficient email management utility, due to its ability of providing access to Gmail for users of a seemingly incompatible operating system. However, it does not only bridge the gap, but it does it in a very efficient manner and leaves nothing to be desired.
