Universal USB Installer is a modern way to install from a choice of different Linux distros directly on to a USB flash drive. The Universal USB Installer uses a Live Linux CD installation approach via this Windows app to install a bootable Linux installation directly to a USB flash drive. Select the type of Linux distro, point to the location of the downloaded ISO file (which you need to download yourself earlier) and then install to the USB flash drive. There is the option to view all available drives rather than just the ones that appear to be flash drives, which may help when a new type flash drive is plugged in, but is not recognized as a flash drive.
