Overview

Are you looking for a great disc burning tool with plenty of functionality? Look no more! When it comes to CD/DVD burning tools, there’s no shortage of such tools on the market. However, I think that not one of them comes close to ImgBurn, an excellent free utility that is jam packed with optical disc burner features. It supports a lot of formats as well and the fact that you can also burn Blu-Ray discs is an excellent addition. It doesn’t matter what formats you thrown at this tool because you will get flawless results. Let’s analyze the many features of ImgBurn in this quick article!

Installation

ImgBurn boasts a fast and straightforward installation that will not pose you any problems. At just 5MB in size, ImgBurn is a lightweight tool with a smooth installation process. You can also choose if you want ImgBurn to become the default tool for when you insert a blank CD or DVD in your optical drive. ImgBurn is a Windows-compatible software so all of the available versions of the Windows are supported by it. ImgBurn doesn’t come bundled with adware/malware or other programs. Let’s move on to the good stuff now!

Interface

It has to be said that ImgBurn has a clean and stylish interface. The Ez-Mode Picker view will be the perfect choice for novice users who just want the basic functionality that ImgBurn has to offer. The app's six main functions, with large, captioned icons are displayed: Create image file from disc, Write image file to disc, Verify disc, Write files/folders to disc, Create image file from files/folders, and Discovery. Advanced users can always go into a more hardcore mode that will allow them to customize a lot more aspects of the burning process. There’s also a help windows present to give you any hints and support if you ever need it and are in doubt. Reading, burning, verifying and so on are the focus of the Help menu.

Pros

ImgBurn is my choice when it comes to burning CDs/DVDs as well as Blu-ray recordable media. It is jam packed with a lot of features and supports virtually any format you throw at it. Besides offering support for the standard ISO disk image files, ImgBurn can also recognize Nero’s proprietary format (.NRG), HP RecordNow!'s and Pinnacle's .PDI. You will never find this kind of support in commercial software products such as Nero Burning ROM. Another useful feature implemented in ImgBurn is the fact that image files can be recorded from the disc to the hard drive. You can easily create a movie DVD too!

All of the standard functions you would expect from a disc burning tool are present in ImgBurn such as choosing the maximum burn speed, making a disc bootable or erase media from a rewritable disc. Other features of ImgBurn include the possibility of writing non-image data to discs and creating any folder layout you desire for a certain image. Already-written disks can also be verified by this software and the “discovery” mode is pretty interesting because by using it, you will get information about the quality of your DVD burner's work. However, you will need DVDINFOPro, a graphical viewer, in order to interpret the results. The drive's capabilities can also be seen along with checking any updates you may receive.

Cons

Some novice users may be put off by the more complex options and features. In spite of this minor problem that can be fixed by sticking to the Ez-Mode Picker view, ImgBurn is one of the best disc burning tools on the market and if you haven't tried it already, you should get it Today!

Alternatives

Alternatives to imgBurn include the likes of CDBurnerXP, InfraRecorder, Brasero (Gnome Desktop), K3b (Linux), PowerISO, Burn (Linux) and many more burning tools.

Conclusion

All in all, ImgBurn is an excellent disc burning tool and one of the most powerful image creating programs on the market. The amount of formats and optical disc burner features supported make it a truly fantastic choice for the burning of your CDs, DVDs and media in general. In addition, you can choose the degree of complexity of the interface! It is also free! Be sure to check out ImgBurn!
