"A Open Source Web browser."

Overview

Dooble is a unique new open-source web browser that is designed to provide a convenient browsing experience, emphasizing privacy and functionality.

Installation

With a file size of 24 MB Dooble downloads and installs quickly, with no malicious applications or unwanted toolbars attached. However, the software does install desktop icons without asking, so you may want to delete them afterwards to free up space. Dooble is a cross-platform browser that is compatible with Linux, Mac OS X, and all recent versions of Windows.

Interface

The user interface is extremely simplistic, consisting of nothing more than a few button icons and a tab bar. Otherwise, the layout is very similar to that of every other web browser, specifically Safari. Users will find a familiar multi-search bar in the top right corner, which you can add your favorite search engines to.

Pros

  • Supports open-source add-ons, so developers can easily extend or improve functionality

  • Includes a nifty bookmarks browser, and makes it easy to add/modify bookmarks via the convenient location widget

  • In addition to conventional cookie management features, Dooble can be set to automatically remove cookies after each browsing session

  • Automatically encrypts all retained browsing data

  • Includes an integrated FTP browser and non-JavaScript file manager

  • Offers a third-party content obstruction feature that allows you to block I-frames and other external content on webpages

  • Supports session restoration so you can quickly resume your browsing session if Dooble crashes prematurely

  • Fully customizable proxy configuration

  • Nine different settings menus let you adjust every possible aspect of the browser, from display quality to history preferences

  • Integrated file manager makes it easy to open third-party applications from within the browser

Cons

  • Was unable to outperform alternative browsers with regard to speed and functionality. However, Dooble offers performance that is comparable, but not superior, to that of the Safari and Google Chrome Web browsers

Alternatives

There are plenty of other free web browsers to choose from, the most notable of which include Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, and Maxthon. Of these alternatives, Mozilla Firefox seems to be the favorite amongst web developers and advanced users due to its extensive library of plug-ins and add-ons, while Google Chrome is a favorite amongst novice to intermediate users for its faster page loading times and simplistic interface.

Conclusion

If you're looking for the fastest, most convenient, most developed web browser out there, Dooble is probably not the best choice. However, if you want a basic browser that is open to expansion and provides all of the main features one would need, you may want to give Dooble a test run to see if it can accommodate your preferences.
