Overview

The daily computer usage creates temporary files and clutter in the disk, taking up a lot of space, slowing down your system and decreasing performance. Wise Disk Cleaner can clean your computer from those junk files that are created while using applications for your work or browsing the web. It is very easy to use for less experienced users, but an advanced mode for experts who want to have better control over the program’s utilities is also available.

Installation

Very fast installation, with no special requirements. At some point during setup you will be asked if you want to install Wise Registry Cleaner as well, a program designed to fix registry errors in the system. Regardless of your choice, the current setup finishes right after that step and launches the program immediately. The supported operating systems are Windows 2000, 2003, XP (32 & 64bit), Vista (32 & 64bit), 7 (32 & 64bit), and even the new Windows 8, which is currently in beta version. Before proceeding further, we recommend you create a system restore point, just to be on the safe side, although Wise Registry Cleaner creates one automatically every time it deletes obsolete Windows files in the Slimming System tab we'll talk about shortly.

Interface

It has a very modern and user friendly interface, with icons and graphics for every tool, as well as explanations for every feature. It is split into 3 main options: Common Cleaner, Advanced Cleaner and Slimming System. You can choose each one from the tabs located on top of the window and run each one just with the push of a button, allowing you to adjust various settings for a more conventional use.

Pros

It has the ability to search the whole disk for useless files that reduce speed and efficiency, whilst other cleaning software cannot even scan particular areas of the system, making you think that your computer is clean but in reality they leave a big amount of junk files untouched. In addition, it is very configurable as it allows you to include or exclude specific files and folders from the scan as well as choose to keep various cookies so as not to lose preferences from certain websites.

Another impressive feature is that the program can perform all the tasks automatically by command line. This is very helpful especially if you have access to a computer with limited functionality and cannot execute the main application. This method is usually preferred by more advanced users.

Cons

One single problem we noticed during our test: when deleting invalid Start Menu shortcuts, the empty folder containing the shortcuts was not deleted as well, although the program in question was already uninstalled from the computer.

Alternatives

CCleaner is a popular freeware with many similar features that help you get rid of all the clutter located in your disk, as well as fixes registry errors that make Windows problematic and unstable. If you are a Linux user, you could try out BleachBit. It is an open source application that will wipe all unnecessary files reliably, without trouble.
