"Audio file Tagger/Organizer"

Having a lot of audio files in your computer requires a lot of effort to keep them organized, and in most cases this task cannot be performed manually. That’s why Dimitris Touzozoglou has created The Godfather, a simple yet powerful program that will help you put some order in your music collection by allowing you to rename and tag files, create/edit playlists, encode audio files into different formats and do many other stuff you never thought you could do from a single environment.

The installation procedure couldn’t be easier, so just launch the installer and follow a few simple instructions to install the program. The setup package is 100% clean from malicious items and doesn’t include any additional software other than the main application.

This software works well on Windows systems, but if you want to use it on Mac OS X machines then check this out.

The main window of the program is very clean and all of the program’s features are organized nicely. On the left is an Explorer-style panel for browsing your computer’s contents, as well as defining which formats you want to search for in that folder. At the bottom of the panel are a few more options, such as adding specific folders to favorites.

There are 4 tabs at the top (Rename, Edit, Organize, Online), and depending on which one is active the contents of the rest of the window change.

TGF has countless features for organizing your music collection. Firstly, you can set custom renaming rules and rename your files automatically. Of course, what would a tool like this be without a tagging feature? In fact, it can automatically tag multiple files in any way you want, all you have to do is fill in the tag fields and let the program apply the changes. If you want to have full control over individual songs, then you can tag them manually using Full Tag Editor. Just right click on one from the list and select “Full Tag edit”. A window will open with all sorts of tag fileds, from track no. to mood, situation and lyrics.

There is also a “Physical Restructure” feature, which gives you the ability to copy or move files on the disk based on their tag information. That’s a really helpful function if you want to reorganize your collection from scratch. There’s a built-in duplicate finder too, useful for similar purposes.

Online sources can be used to obtain accurate information about albums, songs and artists.

Encoding your files to ogg, mp3 and mpc is possible.

It would be nice if the interface was improved a bit to become more modern. In addition, if you are not so tech-savvy then this program might be too much for you.

A few alternatives are taghycardia (free), MetatOGGer (free), Helium Music Manager (paid) and MediaMonkey (paid). The last two have quite a lot features and options, although TGF has more enhanced functionality than both.

The GodFather is one of the most complete applications for organizing your music collection in your computer and it’s free too. If this program doesn’t satisfy you, no program will.
