"Recover lost wireless WEP/WPA keys."
Overview
SterJo Wireless Passwords is a password utility that aims to get users access to the password and other network information saved for wireless networks. This can be local wireless networks or ones that were previously connected to and the information about them stored within Windows.
The software will scan the wireless network records and pull up the information presenting it in several columns. The Wireless network SSID name, the password, the type of encryption and the authentication used are all shown.
The application is intended for people who have forgotten the wireless network and perhaps wish to re-enter it or connect to the same network using a different device and need to enter the password elsewhere without needing to ask for it again.
The software can deal with different kinds of authentication types like WPAPSK, WPA2PSK and different encryption methods like TKIP, WEP and AES.
The information gathered can also be saved to a text file for later reference.
Installation
The installation completed without any issues.
SterJo Wireless Passwords requires Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8 (32 bit or 64 bit).
Interface
The interface is pretty basic with a minimal menu system only with options for File and Help. There are some small toolbar icons which have attractive graphics that make them easy to understand what they actually do.
In the main pane is the area where wireless network information will be shown. There are columns for SSID (Name), Password, Authentication, and Encryption.
The total number of entries is counted at the bottom in the footer.
The refresh button in the far left of the toolbar is perhaps the most useful function here, but the save option to the right of it is also useful.
Pros
- Recover wireless passwords for different networks previously accessed on the computer
- Display the SSID name, password, type, authentication (WPAPSK, WPA2PSK, Open, etc.) and encryption of network connections (AES, TKIP, WEP)
- Save the list of wireless network information as a text file
- Recover from a situation where a Wi-Fi password has been forgotten
- Portable app
Cons
- May create an issue where a user can gain access to Wireless passwords that they have no right to know.
Alternatives
Recover network passwords from Windows XP using Network Password Recovery software.
Conclusion
SterJo Wireless Passwords is a decent wireless password recovery tool to help the user recall the passwords for each of their wireless networks previously connected to.
