Quick Review

"Windows junk file remover."

CleanSweep is a Windows software that claims to be the easiest and quickest junk file remover on the planet. It supports several versions of Windows, including Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8/8.1, and Windows 7. However, some features may be incompatible or produce undesired results on previous Windows OS versions.

CleanSweep offers a range of cleaning features to remove various types of junk files from your system. It can remove temporary files, temporary setup files, temporary internet files, event viewer logs, recycle bin, Chrome cache, thumbnail cache, user file history snapshots, Windows .Old folder, Windows Defender logs, Microsoft Office cache, Microsoft Edge cache, Windows Installer cache, Windows update logs, and Windows error reports.

CleanSweep also provides additional features such as the ability to show potential reclaimable disk space prior to cleaning, total reclaimed disk space post-cleaning, detailed logging to log window/file, verbose and non-verbose output, and the ability to remember configuration and previous cleaning selections (GUI only). It also offers the option to show or hide operation windows that perform tasks and supports update checking. Moreover, CleanSweep can perform tasks silently without user interaction (CLI only) and supports Windows Task Scheduler (CLI preferred).

To get started with CleanSweep, users need to download the latest release and extract the contents. For the GUI version, users can run the CleanSweep2.exe file and select the cleaning options they wish to apply. After making the selection, they need to click on the "Sweep it!" button to start the cleaning process. On the other hand, for the CLI version, users can create a shortcut to the executable and modify the arguments in the "Target" properties field. Then, they can run the CleanSweep2_CLI file. For automated cleaning, users can use Task Scheduler in Windows to set a scheduled time for CleanSweep2_CLI to run.

CleanSweep2_CLI offers all the features of the GUI version, except that jobs are passed through arguments, including logging actions to a logfile on disk, changing verbosity modes, selective cleaning, and silent running for scheduled cleaning through Windows Task Scheduler. Users can pass arguments like -1 (Remove Temporary Files), -2 (Remove Temporary Setup Files), -3 (Remove Temporary Internet Files), and so on, depending on the cleaning option they wish to apply.

However, users must note that CleanSweep is an application that removes data from a Windows machine. Thus, potential or undesired data loss can potentially occur, and users must exercise caution while selecting options in which they wish to keep data. For example, options like Windows .Old folders and previous Windows installs are unrecoverable once removed, as are most options in this application. Therefore, the author warns that users must use CleanSweep at their own risk.
