You just need to follow some generic steps like accepting agreement, selecting application location, whether you want a startup icon or a desktop icon, and if you want to launch Kea coloring book right away. That’s it! You are all set to get your kids started with the amazing coloring experience. It runs on following Operating systems: Windows 7/Vista/2003/XP/2000/98/Me.

Interface

The application has a bright, eye-pleasing, and a very simple interface, which makes it easily adaptable for any kid who is comfortable with simple movements and clicks of the mouse. The straightforward icons make it easy for the kids to understand and use each of these icons as per their needs. The color palette in the left panel has plenty of colors to choose from and there are several tools for different strokes of coloring like brush, magic brush, dropper, fill, marker pen, erase and wash. Also, each tool size is adjustable. ‘Oops’ option lets the little ones undo their coloring mistakes.

Pros

The kids are not left limited by the pictures initially available in the application, up to 300 more pictures can be downloaded from the website. With Parental Tools, adults can create their own coloring pages, in case their kids are bored of the present pictures or want to have pictures of their favorite cartoon. Children can not only choose from the provided color palettes, but also create their own custom color palettes with the help of ‘Dropper’ tool which helps them to understand color mixing methods. Various coloring tools guide the kids to explore different ways of color strokes, such as ‘Fill’ which completely fills the selected area; ‘Brush’ that makes simple strokes of brushing; ‘Magic brush’ lets the little ones cheat when they want, as it only paints in the selected area without spilling color. Children can use their imagination to draw something new with a ‘Marker pen’, whereas ‘Eraser’ works like a real eraser and ‘Wash’ tool washes away the entire paint.
The application also uses funny and cute sounds whenever an action is performed on the picture like, selecting color in Dropper makes ‘Slurping’ sound and filling it from dropper to color palette makes ‘Squirt!’ sound, and so on. The kids will definitely love the sound effects which makes the coloring experience even more fun.

Cons

In this version, only 15 free pictures are initially available for coloring and in order to add or create more pictures, you will have to pay a small registration fee.

Alternatives

Other fun-filled coloring applications for kids are Tux Paint, Cars 2 Color, and Coloring Book 3: Animals. All these are free applications but ‘Coloring Book 3: Animals’ provides free-trial for 5 pictures initially and then has to be bought. Since Cars 2 Color and Coloring Book 3: Animals is limited to cars and animal painting, respectively, so Tux Paint is a more preferable alternate for Kea coloring book.

Conclusion

If you want your children to engage in something which gives enjoyable learning without getting them into painting mess, then Kea Coloring book is the right option. With its child-oriented design, any kid will get used to it easily. Even if you have to pay the registration fee for getting more pictures, it would be worth every penny since the kids will simply adore this fun-to-use application.
