"Save the solar system from invading chickens!"
For the longest time I’ve found a strange attraction to games that involve shooting chickens, especially chickens in space. Don’t ask me why the idea of Chickens from space is appealing, because I have no idea. Chicken Invaders is an over the top space shooter game where chickens that are dressed like bankers fly in to swarm you with their deadly eggs. Your mission is to fly to planet after planet defeating wave after wave of enemy chickens while collecting the left of debris of falling coins and chicken legs.
The demo provides a solid experience with several different power-ups to annihilate your enemies with. Each wave brings a different level of difficulty, as well as different patterns for the Chickens to swoop in trying to bombard you with their deadly eggs. You’ll also run into more than the traditional space Chicken with occasional appearance of UFO’s and Asteroids. At the end of each planet you will also have a Boss encounter which is generally a larger chicken that has the ability to spew dozens of eggs your way as well as other strange abilities.
Chicken Invaders is currently available for Windows, Mac OSx, Linux, iOS, Andriod, and Windows phones. My testing of the game was done on a computer, but I could defiantly see the value in playing the game on a handheld device. Controls on the PC were tight and accurate. You have the option to use either the mouse or keyboard, even adding a second ship for multiplayer or the truly skilled.
Installation is easy and straight forward. No adware detected.
The interface is fairly clean and simple. During gameplay you’ll have a small bar in the top left corner displaying health and current points, other than that the screen is left open to have a better view of the countless obstacles and bonus items flying your way. Graphics are also a clean and makes the game look current.
- Lots of unique levels
- Lots of power-ups and items to keep the game interesting
- A good looking game considering the genre
- Multiple Gameplay modes
- For being a simplistic and strange game, I didn’t find any true flaws as the game seem to accomplish what it’s meant to.
You could honestly fill a set of encyclopedias on arcade space shooter games and though there are several flash based shoot’em up chicken games there isn’t a lot of competition for Chicken Invaders 2. If you’re looking for more though you can always check out the first installment of the Chicken Invaders game and the following 2 editions: Revenge of the Yolk and The Ultimate Omelette.
Chicken Invaders 2 is defiantly a strange arcade space shooter, but it provides a level of entertainment for any age group that’s a fan of the genre. The demo free version of the game provides a fair amount of levels and if you’re truly itching for more space banker chicken action the developers offer several additional bonus levels to the game which include, but isn't limited to Chicken Invaders: Revenge of the Yolk, The Ultimate Omelet, Easter, and Xmas editions.
