"Free partition magic software for Windows"

Overview

It’s not uncommon for someone with an average or higher level of technical experience to modify the partitions of a hard disk due to OS reinstall, bad sectors, etc. But the rest of the users need an extremely easy to use program with plenty of features and a clean interface in order to perform tasks like that. IM-Magic Partition Resizer Free is designed mainly for less advanced users and aims to offer many comforts, including all main features a software of its kind should have plus the advantage of easy usage.

Installation

The installation of the product is only two steps long and has no settings for you to configure. The main installation process is also quick to finish (it won’t take more than a few seconds actually). No viruses, spyware or other kinds of malware are bundled with the setup package. No advertised software are included are installed along with the main program either.

Supported operating systems are Windows 2000, XP, Vista, 7 and 8. For Windows Server OS (2003, 2008, etc.) there is another edition available (IM-Resizer Magic Resizer Server).

Interface

The software’s interface is quite organized and neat. It has a few buttons in the toolbar (Undo, Redo, Reload disks and How to do) and on its end it has a Facebook button that redirects you to IM-Magic’s Facebook page. The main area of the window is dedicated to displaying all available disks and their partitions, along with basic information about them (label, file system, consumed space percentage, total size and partition type). At the bottom of the window you can see a short note about how easy it is to perform an operation on a partition with Partition Resizer in just 3 steps. Next to that note is a box showing all pending operations and next to it is a big button that will apply all changes you made to the partitions.

Pros

IM-Magic Partition Resizer Free can do 5 things: Resize (extend/shrink), Move, Copy, Delete and Format a partition. Depending on what you select, a new window will open with further details and settings you need to adjust. When performing changes to the partitions, nothing is actually applied unless you hit the “Apply Changes” button. That means that you can first copy a partition, then delete it and extend it afterwards, but without applying changes in every step; you only have to finalize the operation after you’ve chosen the desired functions in the order that you want. You can undo (or redo) an operation as well, but before applying changes.

If it’s in the middle of applying the functions and the operation is suddenly interrupted (e.g. system failure, reboot) you don’t have to worry about data corruption and other disasters since the software won’t let anything happen to your files until the operation is fully complete.

There exists helpful documentation for those who want instructions on how to perform operations on partitions.

Cons

None. Works fine and has no bugs.

Alternatives

A program with lots of features (most of which aren’t included in Partition Resizer) and enhanced functionality is Minitool Partition Wizard (free) which is quite popular and also easy to use. Another well-known software with many capabilities for performing operations on partitions is EaseUS Partition Master (paid).

Conclusion

For basic partitioning jobs IM-Magic Partition Resizer is a great helper that won’t give you any trouble. However, it’s not recommended for more extreme tasks since it lacks more advanced features.
