"Make your internet speed 200 percent faster."

Overview

Throttle is an internet speed improvement utility that can make adjustments to internet connectivity to help reduce latency, smooth out lag and speed up web site access.

The tool makes changes to the Windows system including the Windows registry in order to adjust the settings for internet connectivity directly for the operating system version and the internet connection type and speed.

The program itself is very simple to use. Two selections, a speed slider and an "Optimize" button (there is also a "Restore" button too). It is not clear what the difference is between the low speed improvement and the high speed improvement, i.e. how are the alternations different and are there any risks to boosting the speed to the maximum?

The user kind of has to take it on faith that the changes will be positive and won't cause the internet connection to fail entirely. It is not completely clear what the changes actually are although it is also fair to say that even if the technical changes were mentioned, most users would not understand them anyway. A disk image backup before trying the software out is probably advisable.

Installation

The software required 8.8 MB of available space to complete the setup package. The installation completed without any difficulties.

There was no adware, toolbars, malware or spyware included with the setup program.

Throttle requires Windows Windows 8, 7, Vista, XP & Windows Server 2012, 2008, or 2003 (32-bit or 64-bit)

Interface

The Throttle interface is simplistic yet stylish.

On the left side is a menu system with links for Help with Throttle, Contact tech support, Click to visit our web site, and About Throttle.

The user can pick their operating system from the drop-down list provided if it doesn't get correctly pre-selected for them.

The type of internet connection (cable DSL, etc) can be chosen to help the application better understand what the correct internet settings with be.

There is a slider that runs from Boost to Maximum Boost. The user can choose how aggressive they wish to be with the internet performance increase.

There is a large “Optimize now” button and a smaller “Restore” button to return the settings back to how they were before the settings were optimized.

Pros

  • Modify the internet connection settings to suit the type of operating system and internet connection speed
  • Increase the speed of the internet for web browsing, game playing and more
  • Re-optimize when changing to a faster internet connections
  • Experience lag-free gaming without high ping death
  • Install software updates directly within the application
  • Makes changes to the Windows registry

Cons

  • Some users may not like that the software makes modifications to the Windows registry
  • It is also not necessarily clear just what changes will be actioned and users may worry that they'll be cut-off from the internet and that the “Restore” button won't work as expected

Alternatives

TCP Optimizer is an alternative program that gives you easy access to TCP/IP parameters that can be adjusted in order to improve your internet connection.

Conclusion

Throttle is a useful tool to boost internet browsing speeds by customizing the connecting settings to the operating system and internet connectivity available.

Requirements: Pentium 90+ Mhz or Compatible

What's new in this version: Fixed bug where application would crash after updating to a newer version and would not allow application to restart and open again.
