File I/O Amanuensis is a teaching Java tool that can read or write through a console that runs inside the Java programming language. Whether it is a sequential file, a random access type, an array of characters, a string of letters, a URL, an array of bytes, a socket, a GET or POST sequence, a CGI code snippet, some HTTP code or other type, these can all be entered into the application. There are several warnings in the program including that unsigned Java applets cannot access files on a local drive and that the code is only used within the application as a practice environment.
