"Text editor to securely protect your document"

Overview

Safe Pad is a text editor which provides AES 512-bit level encryption on entered content by the combined use of two strong passwords. A password generator can help to create two strong passwords to protect content. Passwords are cached within each session with the program so avoid needing to continually re-enter them. Word processing controls at the top of the editor to provide a more refined interface and rich text rather than plain text entry.

Low contrast themes can be used to make it harder to view text entry on the monitor from a distance. A White Out Theme option using CTRL + 2 can quickly turn all text white and the background white to hide content from someone seeing it near the user. The Escape key when the application has focus can also minimize the app quickly to avoid content being seen. Drag and drop files from Explore to the document window whereupon they will be encrypted. On screen keyboard can help to enter password while getting around keystroke logging software.

Installation

Safe Pad first extracts the installer and program file, then launches the installer package. The installed proceeds and completes the setup including a shortcut with no interaction from the user once the license is agreed to and the Next button is clicked to proceed with the installation.

Interface

The Safe Pad interface is clean, lacking any fuss. There are some small, square black toolbar icons at the top which provide file access and editing options. A menu system above them offers textual controls as well. The text window is without flourish and is designed to be easy to typed out what you need without a lot of extras getting in the user's way.

Pros

  • Double encryption method using two passwords for AES 512-bit encryption
  • Secure password generation
  • Password caches within app during a session
  • Escape key minimizes app instantly
  • White Out Theme can be quickly activated to turn text white to match background
  • On screen keyboard to enter password without using keystrokes
  • Rich text editing controls
  • Import files directly via drag and drop and instantly encrypt the content
  • Free app

Conclusion

Safe Pad continues to improve with new features. It is already one of the better, secure text editors and keeps on improving. Highly recommended for anyone who is happy to have rich text files on their PC which they do not need access to via a mobile app as well.
