"Evaluate the performance of the CPU"
Overview
3D Bench is a portable program that is designed with the simple purpose of measuring either the boot time or the time to restart the PC. The times of different users booting or rebooting their systems is maintained online and checked against system performance to give a sense whether there are performance issues with Windows or perhaps a hardware upgrade is called for.
The portable nature of the software means that it can be used to test a variety of computers in the workplace or home office environment. The software does not get installed, so it does not leave any trace of its use in the Windows Registry either. This makes this tool a snap to use without the need to get bogged down in a confusing installation procedure or tackle too many confusing features.
The software can be copied directly to a USB flash drive or other portable option like a memory card which can be either inserted into a memory card reader or into a SD card slot in the computer and run from there.
The software will take account of whether the system is single core or multi-core with processor features like multi-threading which can affect shutdown and boot times.
Screen snapshots can also be taken within the utility directly and these can be saved in the JPEG format in a specified directory using whatever file name is preferred.
Boot times and restart times will vary depending on the age of the computers, its speed, how long this version of Windows has been installed on the computer, the last time the computer was restarted, and a myriad of other factors. Therefore, repeated tests are useful here.
Installation
The application is portable and so it only needs to copied over to a hard drive, USB flash drive or memory card and then it can be used.
There was no adware, toolbars or spyware included with the installation.
3D Bench will run on most versions of Windows OS.
Interface
The interface is very basic because the essential functionality is fairly simple.
There is a boot up, calculate and start check buttons. There is also a camera button in top right corner near the minimize button which will initiate taking a screen capture for the user.
Pros
- Perform tests on boot up times
- Perform tests on restart times
- Take screenshots
Cons
None.
Conclusion
3D Bench is a good small utility for testing either the boot up or restart time on a Windows PC. The software can take screen shots as well which can document the results too.
