"Powerful and fast duplicate files finder."
When you feel that it’s time to put some order in your data, then you can start by cleaning out all duplicate files and folders that exist, which account for a significant percentage of consumed disk space that could be free otherwise. In this case, you’ll need a professional software that can perform this task efficiently, without giving you a headache to make it work; something like DupScout. DupScout is an easy to use duplicate file remover, which has several interesting features (filters, statistics, reports, etc.) and a modern interface.
The installation procedure is very easy and doesn’t require any settings to be made by the user at all. It’s also only a few steps long, and the main installation process is short and finishes fairly quickly.
No viruses, trojans or other malicious software are included in the setup package. The same goes for 3rd-party advertised applications.
Supported operating systems are Windows 2000, XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, Server 2003, Server 2008, Server 2012 and Server 2012 R2 (both 32/64-bit systems supported).
DupScout has a cool, modern interface that is easy to get familiar with, once you spend some time checking its features and functions out.
The first time you run the program, an Initial Configuration Dialog will open and prompt you to make some settings before using it. These settings include allowing the program to process system files, process directory links and junctions, as well as show directory and file scanning errors.
The main window is split into several areas; a sidebar on the left side (displays saved profiles, input directories and search statuses), a horizontal pane at the bottom (for categorizing found duplicates) and the main area in the center of the window (for listing all found duplicates).
The toolbar at the top has various function buttons for performing different activities.
DupScout has the ability to include system directories in its scans, which is a bit risky if the user is inexperienced since crucial system files might accidentally get deleted, but that’s why there’s the option to disable this feature.
In addition, the scan results are very detailed. Apart from a list of found duplicates, which includes the number of found duplicates for each item, their file size and total consumed disk space, the program can also categorize those duplicates by extension, file size, creation time, modifications date and many other factors. Moreover, it provides detailed statistical reports regarding the scan results (number of duplicates, total files, process time, etc.) and can display pie charts for a better overview of them.
You can add filters to the scans as well. For example, you can exclude some file of specific file types, files below a certain size, etc. Scan settings can be saved as profiles, ready to be run immediately.
There are no cons in this program.
There is a huge number of Duplicate finding software. The best and most popular ones are Duplicate Cleaner (free), CloneSpy (free), Easy Duplicate Finder (paid, also for Mac) and Auslogics Duplicate File Finder (free).
DupScout has a lot of features and functions that make it an extremely useful application for detecting and removing duplicate files from your system. Highly recommended, not just for advanced users, but beginners as well.
