"Find and remove duplicate files on your PC"
AllDup is a duplicate file cleaner that can scan your whole computer and find whatever duplicates exist in it. It can search hard drives, USB flash disks, CDs/DVDs and virtually any connected storage device and then display the results in a nice and organized manner. For more precise results you can let the program search for duplicates by filename, content, file extension and other ways. You can also preview files of many different types using the built-in viewer before you actually take action.
AllDup is clean from viruses, spyware and other kinds of malware so go ahead and download it without worries. You can either grab the installer or the portable version in case you don’t want to go through the installation procedure, which isn’t difficult anyways (just make sure you have administrator rights when performing it; other than that there are no steps with advanced settings or anything).
Supported OS: Windows 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista, Server 2008, 7 and 8 (Alldup is compatible with both 32 and 64-bit editions).
You might get a bit lost when you open the program for the first time, but once you get a closer look into it you’ll see that it’s not very confusing. At the top you can see two rows of buttons; the upper one has options regarding the program in general, whilst the bottom row has options and settings regarding the search operation, like search criteria, search options filters, etc. The buttons on the second row (Search Results, Source Folders, Search Criteria, Search Options, File Filter, Folder Filter and File Preview) change the contents in the main area of the program.
You can search for duplicate files using the following criteria: filename, file extensions, file size, file content, last data modified, creation date, file attributes and hard link. Searching by content reads data packets and then compares them byte by byte in order to have maximum accuracy in the results. In addition, when scanning MP3 and JPEG files you can set the program to ignore ID3 tags and Exif metadata respectively.
AllDup can search the archives of ZIP and RAR files as well by extracting them into a temporary folder. If there are any file types you don’t want to be included in the search you can exclude them from the File Filter category (the same goes for folders too).
Other search options include setting the program priority to “low” when performing a search, showing file owner, attributes and hard link count at the search results, ignoring 0-byte files and excluding files that aren’t within user-defined size bounds.
The built-in file previewer lets you take a look at the files displayed in the results list. Supported files types are text files (TXT, BAT, INI, NFO, CSS, XML, etc.) media files (AVI, MP3, WAV, MP4, AIFF, etc.), image files (BMP, JPEG, GID, etc.) and many others file types. Search results can be exported into TXT and CSV files.
No cons. It is accurate and stable.
AllDup is a great program, and it stands out from the rest due to its user-friendliness and big amount of features. It is also not buggy and doesn’t require many system resources, so users with less powerful computers can enjoy it as well.
