"Backup & synchronize important data."
Overview
O&O AutoBackup helps you keep updated versions of your files/folders continually backed up by synchronizing them with a specific directory on your hard drive or an external media device. The software automates the process of backing up data by giving you a plethora of synchronization options to work with.
Installation
The installation process is relatively self-explanatory, and can be completed in just a few clicks of the mouse. After completing the setup process you'll be asked whether you want to register the software, or continue using a trial version. Overall, installing O&O AutoBackup is as easy as installing any other basic application.
Interface
The user interface is split into three main tabs – default settings, advanced settings, and event viewer. The default settings module lets you select a file or directory path to use as the source for the data that will be copied to a designated destination. The advanced settings module facilitates command processing, letting you specify actions to be performed in place of default functions. The event viewer provides basic information about recent tasks performed by the software. With an "info and support" link always accessible in the top right corner of the main window, O&O AutoBackup is easy for anyone to learn how to use.
Pros
-
Eliminates the need to manually backup data by letting you automate the process from file/folder synchronization. For example, you can set a file on your hard drive to be backed up to a folder on an external media device (i.e. - a USB disk or external hard drive)
-
Automatically updates recently edited versions of files during each backup, so all of your backups are kept up to date effortlessly
-
Convenient status bar icon makes it easy to determine when a backup has been completed so you can quickly remove your external drive
-
Gives you the ability to backup your entire computer, or specific file directories, to an external hard drive on a scheduled basis
-
Includes comprehensive, easily accessible help documentation
-
Gives you three automated backup options – copy all source data to a destination drive, copy only modified/new data (without deletion), or perform synchronization to update the backup folder with new versions of files
-
Advanced users can take advantage of command processing to customize functionality
-
"Save" button in the bottom left corner makes it easy to pause functions and resume them at a later time
Cons
-
Does not include integrated encryption capabilities, so backed up data would need to be secured using a third-party encryption software
Alternatives
Other software that can help you automate the data backup process include Mozy, Duplicati, Cobian Backup, Areca Backup, Uranium Backup, and Comodo Backup. Of these competitors, Cobian Backup is a more popular solution that offers multithreaded functionality, letting you execute several scheduled backup tasks simultaneously.
