FreeUndelete is a freely available recovery utility for files that have been previously deleted. Files can actually be recovered when previously deleted because usually the location of the file is lost, but the data is not overwritten right away. As a result, utilities such as this can scan drives for files that are not indexed but still exist. FreeUndelete does exactly that. Just select the drive and choose to scan it. Then the list of located files without a home pop up on the screen. From there you can choose where to place the recovered files. Wildcard searches and other filtering searches are also possible to narrow down the list of possible files to recover.
