"Icon editor and button image editor"

Overview

Icon Golygydd is a lightweight, portable icon editor that can be used to create icons that will be suitable for various Windows versions up to Windows 8. The icons can also be used with apps as well.

The software can open images up to 3000 pixels by 3000 pixels. Icons can be edited and created from 8-bit alpha channel right up to 32-bit color depth. Images can be imported in numerous formats including ICO, ICPR, JPEG, GIF, PNG, XPM, XBM and PSD. New images can also be captured (from a web page or elsewhere) and used within Icon Golygydd as well.

Change images by adding a drop shadow, smoothing out the edges, rotating it, adding different colors, adjusting the hue or saturation, rolling or mirroring what is already in the image.

The icon editor can also be used with a blank canvas, painting the icon image that the user wants (rather than importing an existing image) and using the fill feature to fill gaps in-between the outlined places on the icon canvas. Gradients are supported for subtle changes in color so that the image will still look good once scaled down to a smaller icon size. Color palettes can also be imported or exported.

Completed icon images can be exported out as ICO, ICPR, BMP, JPEG, PNG, GIF, XPM, XBM, WMBP and PSD files.

Desktop attributes can be customized. The default icons for My Computer, Internet, Recycle Bin, Start Menu items, Shortcuts, Drives, System Folders and other icons can all be replaced with icons made with Icon Golygydd.

Installation

The installation completed without any issues. No malicious software was added during the setup process.

The software requires a Windows operating system.

Interface

The interface has a large design window for the canvas and imported image to be worked on. A large color palette pane is shown on the right side. On the left side is an extensive tool pane with many different graphical tools to use.

Initially the application will display the new icon dialog window to create a new icon with the correct canvas size. This can be closed in favor of importing an existing image. There are a number of icon packs that are offered when the application is loaded up. There is a red X icon in the top-right corner to close this window to start using Icon Golygydd.

The application will be easy to use for anyone who has used a graphical editor before.
