"Organize your photos with this utility."
digiKam is an advanced photo management utility, built by photographers for photographers. It runs under Linux, Mac OS X, and Windows, and it comes free of charge. This quick review covers the Windows version.
With digiKam you can import, view, manage, edit, enhance, organize, tag, and share photographs.
Importing of RAW files is supported, as digiKam uses LibRaw, which can read over 800 proprietary RAW camera file formats. During import, you can apply basic auto-transformations as well.
digiKam also supports all digital camera types supported by the Gphoto2 project, with over 1200 camera profiles. With this, you can connect to your camera, import or delete files on the spot.
As far as editing goes, with digiKam you can do: RAW files editing, Red eyes correction, Brightness / Contrast / Gamma correction, Hue / Saturation / Luminosity correction, Color balance, Invert colors, Blur, Sharpen, Rotate, Adjust levels/curves, Reduce noise, Vignetting, and many more.
Key features of digiKam are:
- pictures import
- collection organizing
- viewing items
- editing and enhancing
- creating slideshows, calendars, prints, and more
- sharing across social media, email, and more
Alternatives for digiKam include RawTherapee (also free) and Adobe Lightroom for Windows or Mac (paid).
