"Free iPhone Transfer and iTunes Alternative"

Overview

If you’re endlessly trying to find the perfect iTunes alternative for managing your iPod touch, iPhone and iPad, which will be lightweight, stable and you will have complete control over it, then look no more because PhoneTrans is what you’re looking for. With this relatively new and frequently updated program you can transfer your media easily, without the need for syncing the device every time (a common problem with iTunes). You can also manage multiple devices and their libraries without the fear of having one’s contents erased. Sounds good enough? You bet.

Installation

The installer is quite small in size. After you run it, follow the instructions and in a few minutes the installation will have been completed. No harmful or irrelevant software are included in the package, but just the main application.

Supported operating systems are Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8. Both 32 and 64-bit versions are compatible.

Interface

The interface couldn’t be simpler. It is lean, with few graphics for increased performance and has all the features organized similarly to iTunes. After connecting your device to the computer you will see it in the pane located on the left side, which has several categories for different types of contents (music, movies, apps, podcasts etc.). Your iTunes library is also shown in that pane. In the main page (“Summary”) you can see general information about your device, such as technical details and space distribution, whilst at the bottom are some quick access buttons.

Pros

Transferring media between the computer and the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad is now a matter of a few clicks. Dragging and dropping of any type of content is supported; the program will automatically copy the files to the connected device without performing a full synchronization, which is the case when using iTunes. Backing up the device’s contents is possible as well, especially when it comes to apps and games, where all settings, profiles and high scores are also saved. This way you can import the backed-up contents to other devices.

If you have more than one iOS device that you want to manage on multiple computers, you don’t have to worry about the different libraries that might have your media erased or replaced. PhoneTrans keeps everything as is and does not allow any unwanted deletion of media.

Connection and content transfer via Wi-Fi is supported.

It should be noted that all transfer processes are much faster than when performed on iTunes.

Cons

Well, audio files cannot be played directly. That’s one and probably the only advantage of iTunes when compared to this program. In addition, it would be great if PhoneTrans was translated into other languages too.

Alternatives

OK, not mentioning iTunes. How about Floola? It is an open-source software with many capabilities, however it doesn’t support iPhone and iPod touch. A software that has more similarities with PhoneTrans is ImTOO iPhone Transfer Platinum (paid). It is available for Mac and Windows users, and although it has a few more features, such as direct ripping audio CDs/movie DVDs to the device, it is harder to use and is not very stable.

Conclusion

Very trusted program that will not disappoint you. Even if you are used to working with iTunes, a temporary change will convince you that your tasks with iOS devices will be more enjoyable and less painful when using PhoneTrans.
