"A professional compression tool."
Shutter Encoder is a professional-grade video converter software for Windows that has been designed by video editors to be as accessible and efficient as possible. It provides a wide range of features, including cutting without re-encoding, audio replacement, merging, subtitling, video inserts, and more.
The software supports a vast range of audio and video codecs, including popular editing codecs like DNxHD, DNxHR, Apple ProRes, QT Animation, GoPro CineForm, and Uncompressed. It also offers various output codecs like H.264, H.265, VP8, VP9, AV1, OGV, MPEG-2, broadcast codecs like XDCAM HD422, AVC-Intra 100, XAVC, HAP, and old codecs like DV PAL, MJPEG, Xvid, WMV, and MPEG-1. Additionally, it has an archiving codec, FFV1.
Shutter Encoder provides an easy-to-use interface with a large number of settings, giving users total control over the encoding process. Its powerful FFmpeg capabilities include duplicate frame detection, framerate interpolation, analytical tools, and deinterlacing with a number of filters available. It also allows users to fine-tune their images by adjusting colors, applying LUTs, and converting color spaces right in the application.
The software has a built-in video player that helps users trim and cut their videos precisely. With some codecs, it even enables cutting without re-encoding, which is lossless and extremely fast. Shutter Encoder also provides powerful cropping support, allowing users to crop their images and videos quickly and easily.
Users can generate and burn-in clip information like names, text, and timecode, and the software can even generate a timecode offset to avoid starting from zero. Additionally, Shutter Encoder allows users to embed closed captions and burn-in open captions with just a few clicks.
The software also offers a built-in subtitle editor, waveform display, and innovative shortcuts, making the subtitle creation process quick and easy. Users can add their logos and watermarks, adjust their opacity, size, and position directly in the application.
Shutter Encoder also provides automatic cut detection that splits an existing video based on where cuts occur. This feature can create an .edl file that can be imported into most major non-linear editing packages to produce an editable sequence.
Finally, Shutter Encoder has a render queue that saves time by allowing users to release different formats with different files. Users can save and share their encoding settings to a preset file and even share them with other users.
The portable version of the software has become my go-to tool for creating proxies when editing, as I find myself preferring it over Adobe's Media Encoder.
