"Total Video Converter"

Overview

Total Video Converter is a media converter software with many capabilities. It supports a lot of video and audio formats and is designed to convert them for playback on your mobile device. Features include photo slideshow, which combines photos and music to create a slideshow, burning the converted videos to DVD/SVCD/VCD, ripping DVDs and CDs, extracting audio from videos and converting it to various audio formats, multiplexing video and audio to one file as well as some plenty of other features too.

Installation

You won’t have any problems installing this product whether you are an advanced user or a novice. The installation steps are very easy to follow. In one of the first steps you will see a changelog of the program and information about it. The installation will begin some steps afterwards and it will take less than a minute to finish.

Supported operating systems are Windows NT, 2000, XP, 2003, Vista, Server 2008, 7 and Mac OS X.

Interface

The program has a nice design, not too complicated or confusing. You can start a new conversion task by clicking on the button located at the top left corner and when you have finished adding the files and making configurations you can start the conversion by clicking the button next to it. At main area are the files that you want to convert, and on the right side is a player for previewing the input file. At the bottom right corner you can see the “Advanced” button, which will add more options to the window, such as start and end time of the file.

A wizard will guide you through when you want to add files for conversion and will give you plenty of conversion profiles and options.

Pros

The program can convert video files to the following formats: MPEG4, 3GP, Game PSP, MPEG1, NTSC or PAL DVD/SVCD/VCD MPEG and burn to disc, AVI, SWF, FLV, GIF, MOV, DV, WMV, HD MPEG TS and ASF. In addition, it can convert audio files to MPEG Audio, WAV, WMA, OGG, AMR, ACE, SUN AU Format, M4A, AAC, MMF and FLAC.

Apart from converting video and audio files, it can also rip DVDs and CDs, or burn the converted files to DVD, SVCD or VCD.

With TVC you also have the ability to extract the video and audio from a file. But you can combine several video and audio files as well, to create one video file. This is similar to the multiplexing feature of the program, but you can only use that to combine one video and one audio file into a file of any type.

A screen capture app is integrated into the program too.

Cons

There are a lot of unnecessary features implemented and that has an impact in its stability. The developers could focus more on the main purpose of the program, which is video/audio file conversion, and improve it on that area.  It is generally buggy and it crashes often.

Alternatives

There are a lot of media converters on the web. Some of them are FormatFactory (free), Any Video Converter (free), MediaCoder (free), Handbrake (free) and Super (free). The last one is claimed to be the best media converter, and it is truly an exceptional piece of software.

Conclusion

Total Video Converter does a very good job converting your files and can be used for several other purposes due to its big toolset. It is recommended that you try it and see for yourself how reliable it is.
