"A file organizer tool."

Overview

If you feel like you should be able to add more to your audio or data CDs and DVDs it’s probably because you can. Ignition is designed to optimize the space used when burning disks by optimizing the files burned to the disk to reduce the size. Ignition also gives you the ability to create ISO files, which can save time when you need to burn a disk multiple times, as well as allowing you to burn disks right from within the application.

Another neat feature of ignition is that it allows you to add features like codecs and autorun to the image you’re burning that can provides a more professional finished disk. The main selling point for Ignition is the money you can save by optimizing your data before burning them to a disk. If you have a backup or project that would normally take up three disks to burn to, Ignition could cut that down to even just two disks. If you use burnable media a lot, this application could make your wallet a little heavier.

Ignition is a very easy program to use, there’s no complicated configurations or setup process to optimize disks. Just add the files you want added to the burnable media, select audio or data disk, and burn. Well this is a nice feature for users who don’t like to customize settings, it can leave advanced users wishing for more.

Installation

Installation is standard without any need for special configurations. There is a survey that you must take in order to continue in the installation, though none of the information is checked so if you don't feel comfortable answering the questions you can put anything in the answers. By default the application will install numerous packaged ad software. If you do not want this software installed make sure to read through the installation so you don’t accept anything you don’t want. Note that when you decline these offers it’s a little deceptive, making you think you’re going to have to quit the whole installation if you don’t accept, which is not the case. Ignition works on most Windows operating systems.

Interface

The interface is extremely easy to use and understand, the limited options make it quick and easy to burn disks. With just one button to press to optimize a disk, it’s definitely as simple as it gets when optimizing data.

Pros

  • Reducing file sizes when burning disks to allow more data to be stored on the burnable media
  • Very easy to use for users of nearly any skill level.

Cons

  • Limited settings options can leave advanced users longing for more.
  • Overwhelming packaged software during installation

Alternatives

DiscFit drives to obtain the same kind of reduced data sizes with disk optimization as ignition, but it doesn’t work as a burning application, so you’ll still need to use another application to actually burn your disk. This can work well if you already have a burning tool you love to use and are just looking for a way to optimize data size on your disk.

Conclusion

Ignition is a nice easy to use burning application that can ultimately save the amount of disks you need to burn by reducing the file size when burning data or audio to CD’s or DVD’s. The application doesn't offer much for customization or advanced settings, but it’s a perfect tool for someone looking for a simple burning application that can save you money by having to use less disks when burning large amounts of data.
