Love birds, large families on a trip and students or colleagues collaborating on a project might want to check out this new iPad app - CoSurf from BoCoSoft. It is free and may sound odd until its perks start dawning on you.

What It Does

Here is how it works. CoSurf is a mobile browser for iPads that splits the screen in two parts, so that two people can sit in front of each other, or snuggle on the couch next to one another, and browse the Internet simultaneously.

If your device is on the flat surface, lifting it up towards you will give you the full screen of your part of the browser. In the middle of the screen, there is a lock button, which disables this feature if you don't need it for the moment, and would like to use the app in other positions.

The two screen parts of the browser are two separate instances, and user profiles can be created for them, with tabs and favorites and even passwords. If you would like your partner to see something from your part of the browser, just swipe fingers and voilà, he or she can see your half.

For the moment, there is only one obvious downside to the app - only one user can use the keyboard at a time, so while your partner is typing, you will be reading, and vice versa.

Who Should Use It?

Who can benefit from an app like that, you say? Besides smooching newlyweds and couples that want to do everything together, CoSurf can be a life saver for large families on trips. Of course, one iPad for a family with three kids won't save the parents, but it will let the grown-ups check their emails and social network accounts in pairs.

Think two students working on an assignment together - researching something suddenly becomes a truly collaborative process when you're in the immediate presence of your partner. Colleagues can benefit from the app from time to time, too.

Pros

  • The app is useful, fun and free
  • Lets two people browse Internet from one iPad simultaneously and independently
  • Is intuitive and easy-to-use
  • Supports simple gesture controls to change orientation and show full screen of one of the browser halves
  • Great for lovers, students, colleagues and big families on road trips, or for research, or simply having fun

Cons

  • Only one user can use the keyboard at a time. Hopefully, the fix to this is in the works

Final Words

The first time I heard of it I wondered if it could be functional, and it actually is. CoSurf can solve a problem of an instant urge to check something online for two people simultaneously in one easy way, and provided you trust your partner to browse with them, you can save yourself the waiting time for the iPad and browse the Internet together. Likewise, if you absolutely love doing things together and can't get enough of each other, CoSurf feels like a natural thing to use and a must-have, especially since you can play browser games together at the same time, provided they don't rely on keyboard input. The app is free and available for iPads only.
