"SuperEasy Live Defrag Free"

Overview

When the default Windows Defragmentation tool is just not good enough for you anymore, SuperEasy Live Defrag can take its place and although it may not offer a wide range of features, it is a simple software that can complete defragmentation tasks rather quick even on large hard drives. With the color coded map available you can view and easily comprehend what kind of files deplete segments of the drive. USB hard disks and RAID disks are supported as well.

Installation

There are no special settings during setup and will only take a few minutes for the installation to finish. When it’s done, a web page will open and take you to your account’s License Keys area, provided that you already have an account in SuperEasy’s website. There you will either find the serial number you received if you have already purchased the product, or a key that extends your evaluation period.

Any machine that has Windows XP, Vista or 7 installed can handle the program nicely.

Interface

The background image in the main window makes the interface look dark and the blue background in textboxes along with the green buttons make an obvious contrast. There are too many graphics in this program that make it lag often, especially when a defragmentation process is being executed.

In the top left box you will find all the available features, and in the box below there are links regarding updates, special offers, product purchase and other online services. At the center some stats are shown about past defragmentation tasks. You can start defragmenting by clicking on the big self-explanatory buttons.

Pros

Overall the program’s performance was fairly good, with the drive analysis option finishing relatively fast and the rest of the procedure being just as quick. The generated reports are saved afterwards for future reference and contain detailed information about the operation.

If you want to have greater control over a defragmentation job, you can edit its settings before executing it by going to the Job Administration option. From there you can create profiles and schedule them to be used whenever you want (periodically or just one time), instead of changing the options every time you have different preferences. Those options include stopping the program from defragmenting when CPU or bandwidth is above a certain level, when the computer is on battery mode, while printing or during mouse/keyboard use.

Cons

It is a heavy program that requires a slightly more powerful computer than the average home PC, and that is because the GUI is rich in graphics, which results in a noticeable consumption of system resources.

Alternatives

Norton Utilities is probably the oldest utility program produced for MS-DOS systems, before the 1990s. With so many years in the market, it has developed many strategies which do an exceptional job at computer optimization. It is not a standalone defragmentation application like Live Defrag, but it comes with many other features to speed up and clean up your PC.

Puran Defrag (Free, Pro) is another great defragmentation tool with a simple interface, mainly focused on novices.

Defraggler, Auslogics Disk Defrag, and UltraDefrag are more popular, freeware alternatives.

Conclusion

Live Defrag did pretty well during defragmentation tests, so it would be a lie to say that it’s not a trustworthy software. With that being said, the only thing you have to do is try it out for a few days and see how it works for you before buying it.
