"Brain teasers, puzzle and memory games."

Overview

Memonix is a game that will exercise your brain, and it does a very good job at that to be honest. I actually really liked this program, I felt like there was a good variety of games to choose from, as well as a ton of variables for difficulty. And of course, the add-on functionality for even more puzzles is a great feature.

To be fair, the graphics aren't anything special, and the music, sound effects, and dated design can be a bit annoying at times. However, none of this should really take away from the enjoyment of the game, seeing as you can simply turn off the sound, and it's about challenging your brain - not being impressed by awesome graphics.

Overall, I really liked playing through the four different types of puzzles, and I found them to be challenging in different ways than one another.

Installation

Quick and painless, just download the .exe and follow the setup wizard. There was no toolbars or bundled software that I needed to install, or was even asked to install. Memonix is compatible with Windows XP, Vista, 7, and 8.

Interface

What the Interface of Memonix lacks in beauty, it makes up for in responsiveness and efficiency. There's a lot of different options you can set for the puzzles, such as difficulty, size, and add-ons, which makes it extra important that the UI works well - and it certainly does ion Memonix. Not only is everything easy to change, it's also very accessible to get to the options menu.

Once you get past the outdated color scheme and boring textures, you'll find that Memonix really is something to enjoy and give your brain a challenge with. This can partially be attributed to a working UI that ensures there's no mishaps on the game's end.

Pros

  • Four different types of puzzles to choose from
  • Multiple sizes and difficult levels available via the options menu
  • Easy to use UI that is fast and responsive and gives you all the options you need
  • Free to try, and only 5 bucks to unlock the full version
  • Add-on functionality for more game play beyond whats included here

Cons

  • Boring color scheme and textures
  • Sound effects and music get old very fast - you can mute them though

Alternatives

A popular puzzle game you can find right here on D3K is Repton 2, which has even more outdated graphics than Memonix - but still is a great game. Blobs is another really fun time killing game that also helps give your brain a workout. Boxikon is a more traditionally puzzle oriented variant of Tetris, and worth taking a look at as well.

Conclusion

At first glance, Memonix looked like it would just be a kids game that was poorly developed. However, I realized pretty quick that this game actually had good potential - and I ended up enjoying my time playing through all the different types of puzzles. The varying difficulties and puzzles sized make for a ton of play-time, since the 8x8 insane difficulty puzzles get pretty difficult.
