"Instant color wallpapers, infinite palette!"

Overview

LoneColor for Android is a basic app for Google's Android mobile operating system that deals with color backgrounds and removes the need for desktop wallpaper switching apps.

The app does away with the idea of using different background wallpaper that the user will need to store large graphic files to facilitate and then switch them from time to time. Instead, it brings the idea of simply using a full color background in a shade or hue of the user's choosing. This takes up far fewer resources and reduces the time it takes for lower specification Android smart phones and tablets to redraw the background when returning back to the home screen after finishing using an open app.

The recently-modernized LoneColor app icon sits on the home screen. Once tapped, it will act by changing the background color based on the user-selected color code that they have already copied to the clipboard. This works on small 4-inch smart phones and 10-inch 16:9 widescreen tablets too.

As well as accepting user-selected colors for the background, there is an option to randomize the color pick which can bring some added spontaneity too.

The app needs minimal access permissions, is presently ad-free and is totally free.

Installation

This application is available directly from the Google Play store. It can be downloaded, installed and setup from there.

There was no adware, spyware or malware included with the distribution.

LoneColor for Android requires Android 3.0 and up. It has also been updated to run correctly on Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Interface

There is the program icon which sits on the home screen. The program itself picks up color copied content that runs through the clipboard. If the user locates the color code for a favorite shade, then the app can pick up on that copied color code information and update the background color accordingly. There is also the option to randomize the color selection process.

There are no settings and options to confuse the user.

Pros

  • Change the background color to something more relaxing or dramatic
  • Save space on memory cards by not bothering with background wallpapers
  • Copy a color code that is attractive and the app will pull in that information and can change the background color accordingly

Cons

  • Lacks a settings option and a real interface.
  • Would have been nice to have the option to create a gradient rather than always a full color background.

Alternatives

Color Screen Theme is an app that can fill an Android screen with many shades of a given color like green, blue or grey.

Conclusion

LoneColor for Android is a neat little app that can change the background color of an Android device to a different color to make it more attractive to use and do away with background wallpaper for good.
