"Fast free image viewer with a clean interface"

Overview

Windows’ standard image viewer looks nice, but it’s very plain and doesn’t have a lot of features. Replacing it with another software is a good idea, but can you find a fast, flexible and powerful image viewer? Of course you can, and that’s why you’re here anyways. Image Eye has many features that allow you to not only view images but also perform basic editing operations on them like crop, rotate, zoom, mirror as well as adjust brightness, contrast and sharpness while maintaining low system resources consumption.

Installation

After grabbing the program from our site or the official website, extract it and run the included executable. The installation procedure is the same as any typical software’s installation, so there’s no need to worry about screwing up anything. No advanced settings are included.

The program is 100% clean from any type of malicious script and doesn’t include any additional 3rd-party software either.

Supported Operating systems are Windows XP (SP3), Vista, 7 and 8.

Interface

The first time you launch Image Eye you will be asked to select interface language and whether you want supported files types associated with it.

When you open an image with the program you will see that the only thing in its window is the image and nothing else. No menus, no toolbars, no nothing. This is great since it takes up much less space in the screen and consumes less memory. You can start exploring the program’s features by right-clicking anywhere on the image; the context menu that comes up has many items and options organized in sub-menus.

The right and left arrows change rotation of the image and the up and down arrows change zoom. There are many other shortcuts that you can find in the program’s documentation.

Pros

The first thing that comes to mind when viewing images is that it doesn’t clutter your screen with menus and toolbars; instead it does exactly what was made to do: display images. It’s very lightweight, but that doesn’t mean that you don’t have any power over the images, though. The right-click menu has everything you need: open an image in the same window (“Load new”), open an image in a new window (“Spawn new”), save current image as (“File->Save as….”) and others.

More particularly you can adjust the window image to image size, trim image to window, adjust the image’s brightness, contrast, sharpness, hue, saturation, gamma, plus rotate, mirror, zoom and pan the image. A lot of shortcuts are available, all of which can be found in the program’s documentation.

You can create and run slideshows.

A wide variety of file formats are supported: BMP, GIF, ICO, IMG, JPEG, PCX, PNG, TGA, RAW, etc.

Cons

There are no cons in this program as it runs like it should and without bugs.

Alternatives

IrfanView (free) is one of the best image viewers available. It is lightweight and has tons of features, even more than Image Eye. Two other alternatives are FastStone Image Viewer (paid) and PhotoScape (free).

Conclusion

There’s nothing to dislike about Image Eye. It’s cool, simple, powerful - an awesome image viewer for awesome users.
