Quick Review

"Full-featured free space monitor"

FreeSpace is a lovely little app for the OS X operating system. It initially displays in the menu bar with the icon for the selected media and the free space available. When clicking on the app, down drops a panel with considerably more information. Many different storage mediums can be read such as local, external, Superdrive, network drives, iMac, Mac Mini and more. There is the option on the right of the drop-down panel to eject storage media, where applicable. Each type of media is grouped into a category, so local storage is in one area, iMac another, external storage, etc. This makes it very easy to scan down to find the free space for the media that matters to you. The app is designed to work particularly well with the Time Machine backup system. Supports Retina Display, partition sorting and has low CPU-usage.

FreeSpace Key Features:

  • Lightweight app displaying free space
  • Supports Time Machine, Superdrive, local, external & networked drives
  • Single or multiple eject functionality
  • Low CPU usage
  • Drives grouped into meaningful categories
  • Click drive name to open Finder app & go straight to that drive

FreeSpace is one of those apps that has functionality that you'd have wanted in OS X already but was sadly lacking. It fills a gap and for people who work with multiple hard drives and storage mediums, or who constantly have free space issues, this affordable app is very suitable.
