"Transfer your songs off your iPod to a PC"

Overview

Sometimes messing with iTunes to transfer songs between your PC and your iPod isn’t such a good idea and will often trouble you before you achieve what you want. With iDump Classic Pro 2013 you can simplify this process a lot, since it enables you to transfer songs between your iPod, iPhone or iTouch and your computer just by locating them in the list of songs and clicking a button.

Installation

Nothing can go wrong with the installation of the program so go on ahead and launch the installer. At first you’ll be prompted to choose between typical installation mode (i.e. installs most common features) and custom installation mode (you get to make all configurations). There aren’t any important settings that you need to make so I’d suggest you choose the typical mode.

The setup package is clean from viruses, spyware or any other types of malware plus it doesn’t include any additional 3rd-party software.

Supported operating systems are all editions of Windows that have Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 (or greater) installed.

Interface

First-timers will be asked to choose program language before proceeding further. Then the main window will open, which is very easy to get familiar with. It is split into two sides; the left side has a list of all media in the connected iPod, iPhone or iTouch, whilst the right side displays the contents of your computer (the directory your browse to), your iTunes library and the contents of other devices. To choose between those places there are 3 tabs above the right list. You can use the drop-down menus to change the device, directory, etc.

Pros

It’s very easy to transfer files with iDump Classic Pro. Just select your device from the drop-down menu of the left side, choose destination directory from the right side (computer folder, another device or iTunes library) and then click “Start copy”. Simple as that.

When copying songs you can also select to convert them to another file format, including MP3, OGG, WAV, WMA, AAC (M4A), FLAC, AIFF, AU, VOC and WMA.

Along with the audio files, their artworks are copied too if they exist. If they don’t, then iDump will search the internet for artworks (it’s not defined which database it searches in).

English, Spanish, German and French languages are supported.

Cons

The installer’s interface would sometimes have its contents disappear, so you’d have to close it and start it again.

The product’s website has some broken links, the most important of which is the site listing supported devices.

No Help file is included.

Alternatives

Alternatives to iDump are: SharePod (freemium), iFunBox (free), CopyTrans (paid), TouchCopy (paid) and SYNCiTunes (free). The best options out of those are CopyTrans and TouchCopy, which have great similarity in their features and are better than iDump.

Conclusion

iDump Classic Pro is quite a useful program and easy to use, however it could get improved in many areas: interface, documentation and small bugs. But this doesn't change the fact that it’s a free program and is available to any user.
