"One free file encryption for the Windows"

Overview

KaKa File Encryption is a simple file locking and encrypting package where the user can add files directly to the application that they wish to encrypt and protect access to.

The software includes a basic interface which allows the user to add as many files as they want from different folders. The software can then apply the same password and encryption methodology to the files.

Four of the strongest and most well used encryption algorithms are included in KaKa File Encryption. These are AES, MD5, Blowfish and Triple-DES. AES is extremely well known and used frequently as is Blowfish, with Triple-DES and MD5 used less often to secure access to files and data. Either way, the user is well protected with these type of security encryption protocols.

The software includes strong password protection and can encrypt files at a rate of several megabytes per second. The file names remain unchanged despite the encryption process.

One unique aspect of the program is that it alters is executable file when passwords are created. This is because its execution is self-contained.

Installation

There is no installation as the file is a portable one that can run directly from a hard drive or via a USB flash drive.

There was no adware, toolbars, spyware or malware included with package.

KaKa File Encryption requires Windows Vista, 2003, XP, 2000, NT, ME or 98.

Interface

The interface is basic with this application.

The top of the application window has an area to show the files. There are columns for Filename, Path, and State. Below this is an Option panel with two text boxes to enter the password twice. Files with this application will all use the same password to unlock them.

Pros

  • Encrypt the contents of individual files
  • Add files to the application to encrypt them
  • Encrypt files using powerful encryption technology such as AES, MD5, Blowfish or Triple-DES
  • Basic interface but perfectly functional

Cons

  • Alerts the executable file when password set which can trigger some virus scanners to find a false positive
  • Some users would prefer to encrypt folders or whole system drivers rather than piecemeal for individual files alone

Alternatives

Alive File Encryption can encrypt individual files but also folders as well. The software works from Windows Explorer with options for "Alive File Encryption" to "Encrypt/Decrypt" in the context menu.

Conclusion

KaKa File Encryption is a useful file encryption package that can individual encrypt files using one of four methods.
